The Green River Boys CCR Tribute
When Jose Castellanos approached his friend Jack Hall with the idea of forming a band to honor the music of John Fogerty and CCR he was preaching to the choir. Both musicians had grown up listening to the many CCR hits on the radio and had played quite a few in years past. Jack agreed and the rhythm section was intact, Jose on drums and Jack on bass. Jose had another terrific Columbus musician in mind to cover those amazing Fogerty guitar licks. When asked, Kurt Richardson jumped on board. Covering the iconic Fogerty vocals would be no easy task, but Jack thought of his friend from Atlanta, Stewart Brown, who's voice has the grit and range to do justice to the CCR songs. The band was complete when Stewart signed on- four accomplished musicians with a mutual appreciation for that timeless CCR music. But choosing a name wouldn't be a simple job either. Almost every suggestion had been used and a few ideas elicited some chuckles, such as CCRus and Clarence Creedwater. But when Kurt suggested the Green River Boys it seemed a natural fit and the matter was settled. Jose, a self described Army brat, was born in Boston and settled in Columbus in 1964, and plays guitar and bass as well as drums. He works for Absolute Audio and his smiling face is familiar to music fans throughout the area. Kurt's family relocated from Germany to Columbus when he was four. He picked up guitar and drums at a young age. After a stint in Nashville Kurt moved back to Columbus and is also very familiar to local music lovers. playing guitar and singing with several area bands. Stewart is a triple threat singer-guitarist-songwriter, and has released a number of albums of original material. He has played with a several well known artists like Percy Sledge and the Drifters and lives in Marietta, GA. Jack comes from a musical Mobile, AL family and with his brother Jimmy co-founded the Southern rock band Wet Willie who's best known hit, Keep On Smilin', is still played on classic rock radio. He moved from the Atlanta area in 2008 and now lives in Phenix City, AL.
The Green River Boys invite you to take a nostalgic musical journey with us and hope you enjoy our rendering of the great music of John Fogerty and CCR.
